This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, August 23, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured bird is Franklin's Gull.

Sightings for Saturday, August 23:
An adult Franklin's Gull in basic plumage was seen at the end of the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty just north of Berth 5.

Two Great-horned Owls and good numbers of migrating passerines were at
Beach Grove Park near the school.

Thursday, August 21:
There was a female Black Scoter at West Beach in White Rock.

Four adult and 4 juvenile Mute Swans were near the Westham Island Bridge.
Reifel had a Trumpeter Swan and 2 Sandhill Cranes.

Wednesday, August 20:
An Osprey was seen at the newly created conservation ponds on the PNE
grounds.

Tuesday, August 19:
Reifel had 5 Stilt Sandpipers, a Red-necked Phalarope and a Black-
crowned Night Heron.

Two Marbled Godwits were at the Compensation Lagoon along the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.
