Friday, August 29, I conducted the monthly Steigerwald Lake
N.W.R. bird census. Between the second and third barns as you walk out
the dike I located an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
in the teasel and blackberry patch there. I last viewed the birds at
about 3:30 PM. The Ash-throated Flycatcher is the first record for Clark
County. Other species seen during the census included 2 GREAT EGRETS and
a PEREGRINE FALCON.
