This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, August 30, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are Long-billed Curlew, Ruddy Turnstone and Red
Knot.

Sightings for Saturday, August 30:
A Long-billed Curlew was seen in a grass field 200 meters east of
104th Street in Delta.

The Willet was at the base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty, and 2
Marbled Godwits and the Whimbrel were further down the jetty at the
Compensation Lagoon.

Friday, August 29:
A Long-billed Curlew was at 104th Street in Delta. Also in the area
were 1 juvenile Ruddy Turnstone, a juvenile Red Knot and 100 Baird's
Sandpipers.

Thursday, August 28:
Six Baird's Sandpipers were seen along Grant Narrows in Pitt Meadows.
Also in the area were 3 Sandhill Cranes.

Wednesday, August 27:
Two Marbled Godwits and a Whimbrel were seen at the Compensation Lagoon
on the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

Monday, August 25:
A juvenile Ruddy Turnstone was at the Compensation Lagoon on the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

In Burnaby Lake Park at Piper's Spit on the left side on an island
and along reeds were 2 juvenile Green Herons and 1 Solitary Sandpiper.

One Marbled Murrelet was off Crescent Beach Pier at Blackie Spit.

Sunday, August 24:
A Wadering Tattler was seen along the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty on rocks
off Berth Number 1. Also present were 55 Black Turnstones. The Willet
was at the base of the jetty and 2 Marbled Godwits were at the
Compensation Lagoon.

Reifel had 1 Stilt Sandpiper, 1 Bank Swallow and 1 Green Heron, and 2
adult Mute Swans with 7 cygnets were at the Westham Island Bridge.

In a late report for Saturday, 1 juvenile American Golden Plover, a
Marbled Godwit and 2 Red-necked Phalaropes were at 104th Street in
Delta.
