There is a Peterson Field Guide to Mexican Birds. It's small and easy to
carry. But the best guide is A Guide to the Birds of Mexico and North
Central America by Steve Howell and Sophie Webb. It's big and cumbersome.
Some people remove the center section of color plates and have it spiral
bound at a Kinkoes or other copy shop. This makes a great field guide. The
rest of the book can be kept sepaarate for detailed reference. I've birded
both coasts of Mexico with Bert Frenz of Adventure Caravans. He has
published detailed logs of his extensive birding trips all over Mexico. I
believe you can find a link to his journals on the Texas Ornithological
Society's web site.
