This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Sunday, November 30, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Surrey.

The featured birds are MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD, GYRFALCON and AMERICAN
AVOCET.


Sightings for Sunday, November 30:

The female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD continued to be seen throughout the day
along the Boundary Bay dyke trail at and just east of 64th Street in
Delta. Also in the area were 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, a SAVANNAH
SPARROW, a NORTHERN SHRIKE, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK and 3 EURASIAN
WIGEON.

The GYRFALCON that has frequented Boundary Bay all week was seen on
Westham Island today.

3 AMERICAN AVOCETS could still be found at the mouth of the
Serpentine River on Mud Bay in Surrey.

The Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Delta had 3 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, a
BARRED OWL, 2 WESTERN TANAGERS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, and a
HERMIT THRUSH.

A LEAST SANDPIPER was in a plowed field with KILLDEER at the corner
of 64th Street and 36th Avenue in Delta.

2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were at the foot of 72nd Street and over the south
side of the Boundary Bay Airport.


Sightings for Saturday, November 29:

The female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was seen at the foot of 64th Street in
Delta.

Also in Delta, a GYRFALCON was at the foot of 112th Street.

60 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in overflight in the Newton area of
South Surrey, at the 13,700 block of 67th Avenue.

Reifel Bird Sanctuary had 3 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS and 2 very late
WESTERN TANAGERS. The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY could still be seen at 4126
River Road in Ladner, and the BLUE JAY was at 850 West 19th Street in
North Vancouver.

A PILEATED WOODPECKER was at a feeder at 8007 Government Road in
Burnaby, which is close to Burnaby Lake Park.
