And to all those making the trip to Arizona: You lucky dogs!
In addition to the books mentioned, there's a great "Southeastern Arizona Birding Trail Map" put out by AZ BLM. You can probably get one from the AZ office of Tourism (which, incidently, has good links to other birding sites. and tucson.org)
Janine, it looks like you'll be getting to the Patons' on your trip. I would suggest this at any time of year. Mrs. Patons is a wonderful host and who knows what you'll see there on any given day (violet-crowned hummingbird?). If you'll be at the Patons' you should head over to Sonoita Creek (check on hours-the preserve is closed a couple days a week and I can't remember which. Maybe mon-tues?) to look for green-kingfishers.
Patagonia lake is good at this time of year and has been reporting a trogon and rufous-backed robin lately. Huachuca Audubon has a trip to Patagonia Lake on the 11th (520-803-8490)
If you're going to be in Tucson, Sabino canyon and Catalina State park are good for thrashers.
You should also take advantage of one or two CBCs since you'll be there in Dec. This is probably the best way to see lots of species (thrashers, owls etc.) if you have the time. Try to hit a few different elevations to max-out on diversity.
Maricopa and Huachuca audubon sites have lots of info. Finally, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a great place to see native wildlife.
