Short winter days leave little opportunity for birding after work.
So, when I find myself in the vicinity of a library this time of year,
I often drop binoculars into the back seat, and take to the well
lighted racks. Last night I spotted the two volumes of Birds of
Washington in the reference section . Ive seen photocopies of various
pages of this historic text, but never before had the opportunity to
look through the work in its entirety, and this set happened to be one
of the Author's Edition, which apparently numbers 250 sets. I was
quite amazed (and thrilled) when I turned the cover, to find that I was
holding the very first copy of those 250. And there next to the number
1, the now somewhat faded signature of William Leon Dawson.

I can only assume that Dawson signed all 250 Author's copies. Does
anyone know if this is correct ?

It was a good day (at the library).
