Hello All,
On 6 Dec. MerryLynn and I hit the field and birded northern Walla Walla, Southern Franklin and sw. Adams Counties. The following are the highlights.

American Tree Sparrows.....12 birds 4miles south of Lyons Ferry along Lyons Ferry Rd. This is the largest number of trees we have ever located in Walla Walla County. They were in a shelter belt planting.

NOTE: Lyons Ferry Park is closed and no one is allowed in for any reason as it is now private and only open to the public starting in April. This is no longer a Wash.State Park!

Glaucous-winged Gull......4 birds below Lower Monumental Dam, Franklin Co.

Long-eared Owls......2 birds along Smith Springs Rd. and 10 birds on a winter communal roost site near Wind Dust Park.

Golden Eagle......1 ad. near Washtucna, Adams Co. Scavanging a road killed rabbit.

Brown Creepers....2 birds at Wind Dust Park

Barn Owl.......2 birds at Wind Dust

Hermit Thrush......1 bird at Wind Dust Park

Merlin......1 ad. at Wind Dust Park

Rock Wren......1 bird west of Wind Dust

BAT!.......ONE ANIMAL FLYING OUT FROM TALUS SLOPE AND HAWKING INSECTS. It was warm and clear with huge numbers of bugs in the air. This bat was seen off and on from 2:30-3:25 P.M.. Very unusual at this time of year. Wish we knew the species and the biology of wintering bats.
