John,

I use an old Audubon recipe.
1 pound of lard (one cube), two cups of quick oats. I put the lard in a
pyrex loaf pan, melt it in the microwave, stirr in the oats, cook 2 miutes.
Then I stick in the freezer. Bring them out from frozen to scoop into my
nets.

Works fine, and very economical.
