This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, December 13, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited,
with stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.


The featured birds are HARRIS?S SPARROW and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT

Sightings for Saturday, December 13:

The HARRIS?S SPARROW was again seen at Blackie Spit Park in Surrey,
around the compost bins at the Dunsmuir Community Gardens. Also at
Blackie Spit were 6 overwintering GREATER YELLOWLEGS.

The 3 AMERICAN AVOCETS were at the mouth of the Serpentine River,
Surrey, 150 meters east of from the railroad bridge.

A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was at Mud Bay Park near the railroad
tracks, near where the avocets were seen.


Friday, December 12:

A HERMIT THRUSH was at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, below the
radio tower.


Sightings for Wednesday, December 10:

A TOWNSEND?S WARBLER was at Plymouth Crescent, almost at the
Dollarton Highway, in North Vancouver.

3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were on the rugby field on the
west side of Burnaby Lake, Burnaby.


Tuesday, December 9:

A HARRIS?S SPARROW was hanging around the compost bins at the
Dunsmuir Community Gardens located on the south side of Blackie Spit
Park, Surrey.

The immature grey morph GYRFALCON was west of the foot of 96th Street
in Delta.

The Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta had 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT
HERONS, a WESTERN TANAGER, and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL.

The WESTERN SCRUB-JAY continued to be seen at 4126 River Road
West in Ladner (Delta).
