After reading about the Ross's Goose that had been
hanging around the Pack River Delta off Sunnyside
Road, I decided to try for it on Monday (12/15/03).
After joining Earl & Bev Chapin, we ended up on a
proverbial "wild goose chase" for this species.

Although the Ross's Goose could not be relocated, we
did observe a Townsend's Solitaire, No. Pygmy Owl, and
at least one calling Trumpeter Swan (state lifer) on
the far shore from the terminus of Sunnyside. We
encountered my other target species, a small flock of
Bohemian Wawwings (state lifer), on Kaniksu Shores.
Around Selle, we saw a No. Shrike and a No. Pygmy Owl.

A couple of weeks previously, I saw a Merlin (of the
taiga race) at the junction of 57 Ave. & Regal Rd on
the South Hill of Spokane. Jan Reynolds reported
seeing Redpolls in this vicinity too. In addition, Jan
reported seeing Bohemian Waxwings in Lincoln Park.
