I was finally able to get away for a successful chase of the
PINK-FOOTED GEESE at Hoquiam on Monday, 12/23/03. They were seen as soon
as I stepped out of my vehicle at the south end of "K" Street. Ruth and
Patrick can tally one more happy birder on their observer list. From
there I headed to Ocean Shores and observed the ROCK SANDPIPERS,
SURFBIRDS, and BLACK TURNSTONES at the base of the jetty where they were
taking cover from the crashing waves. In the pond near the Water Tower I
found two male EURASIAN WIGEON and two male REDHEADS.
By the time I made it to Tokeland the tide was out and I had
missed the Long-billed Curlews at Graveyard Spit. Instead of a thousand
MARBLED GODWITS on the float at the Tokeland Marina, there was just one
on the beach with two WILLETS and two WHIMBREL.
