Hello,

Below is information on 4 Trumpeter swans that are currently in the
Whatcom/Skagit county area. I will appreciate information on any sightings
you make of these birds.
Thanks. More on J22 will be posted to www.swansociety.org in the coming
week.

J22 - green collar, no radio: last seen 12/28 in Whatcom Co., off Slater
Road just west of the Nooksack River crossing.
J22 was captured at Red Rock Lakes NWR, Montana in Nov/Dec 1991 and
transplanted to the Fort Hall Reservation, near Pocatello, as part of FWS
efforts to reduce the density of wintering swans in the RRL/Harriman SP
area. I don't have access to subsequent sightings but I know this bird had
an interesting history - I am pretty sure that it somehow wandered over to
Summer Lake and hung around there for a while but can't verify that from
what I have here in AZ

K24 (white collar, satellite transmitter) and K25 (green collar, no radio):
Banded as a pair.
K25 last seen 12/28 at hwy 9 and Massey Road just SE of Everson.
K24 - where is she now?
K25 was caught by Rod Drewien (TTSS), Bruce Conant USFWS, anad Andre Breault
(CWS) (see attached file) 17 miles southeast of Beaver Creek, YK near the
Alaska border. It was captured with a presumed mate (K24). Mike Smith
reported K24 near Everston on 11/19-20/03 but did not see K25 at that time.
Apparently both birds are in the same area, but maybe not together?

K25 was mapped as part of a TTSS project to document the migration routes
and wintering areas of swans nesting in the Yukon and northern BC, using
satellite-radio telemetry and conventional neckbands. TTSS also collected
genetic samples for a FWS-sponsored study to assess the relationships of
various Trumpeter breeding populations. Radioed birds can be followed on
the Shadow-A-Swan website www.uen.org/swans.

One of these radioed birds 'Miner" is currently near Sedro Wooley

ALSO - most recent location for Miner was at Butler Flat, west of Sedro
Wooley. He is wearing a white collar with radio. His mate is green
neckband K17. No visual yet.
