Well I got a sweet little book for xmas called Birds of the Olympic
Peninsula by EA Kitchin. It is full of interesting tidbits, although the
names from 1949 need some translation. I just read in this book that the
Red-Breasted Nuthatch smears fir pitch all around the entrance to the nest
hole in order to deter predators. Never heard that before.
