This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Sunday, February 2nd, evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild
Birds Unlimited Stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured birds are ICELAND and GLAUCOUS GULLS, HARRIS' SPARROW
and TOWNSEND'S WARBLER.

The LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL reported for Saturday was actually only
seen on Friday. I apologize for the mistake.

Sightings for Sunday, February 2:

A KUMLIEN'S ICELAND GULL was seen in an area near the dump in Delta.
Also in Delta an adult GLAUCOUS GULL was along 36th Avenue west of
72nd Street on the north side. An AMERICAN KESTREL was in the
Boundary Bay area as well.

Another AMERICAN KESTREL was along Delta Port way and 41B Street.

The HARRIS' SPARROW continues at the same location at the end of
River Road, near a cement shed with a greenish roof. The bird is
being lured out of a blackberry bush by millet. 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS
were at 27B Avenue, east of 41B Street.

3 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were seen at Prospect Point in Stanley Park.

In late reports for Saturday, a 2nd winter GLAUCOUS GULL was along
Burn's drive, and seen in a wood lot near Boundary Bay Airport were a

Friday, January 31

An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL in breeding plumage, likely the same
bird found in December, was relocated along Burns Drive in Delta
in the morning, sitting with about 1000 other gulls. It then flew off
towards the dump.

The adult HARRIS' SPARROW was again seen along River Road in Ladner
about 4 houses from the end. The tundrius race PEREGRINE FALCON was seen
perching on trees at Brunswick point.

A BLUE JAY has been seen for about a month at a feeder with many
STELLER'S JAYS at the residence in the 600 block (even numbered
address) of East Windsor Road in North Vancouver.

The AVOCET was at Beach Grove Lagoon in Tsawaassen.

The pair of CRESTED MYNAS was seen going into a hole in the bricks
under the "Best Facilities Services" sign along Wylie Street between
1st and 2nd Avenues in Vancouver.
