Greetings All

Charlie's observations are cogent. Last winter, as well, the Barn Swallows
looked quite warn. Per Pyle et al, moult usually occurs on the wintering
grounds, and can take place between Oct and Mar, a broad period.

Stressed birds, however, tend to delay moult or skip it altogether. It is not
surprising that these birds are not moulting. They are probably barely able
to meet their daily energy needs.

The big question is "What sent them north again in the middle of the winter?"
Very odd indeed.

Cheers
