Birding, with a group or alone, can result in some serendipitous moments for
one or all. While assisting with a spring bird walk at a State Park back in
WI (I'm a recent transplant) visitors were lamenting the sticker fee for
using the state parks. We joked that the fees helped pay for the 'catch and
release' method we used for birding. We seemed to have been having great
luck in birds showing up at just the right moment a visitors were amazed to
see such wonderful and sometimes rare birds. Just as we were finishing the
discussion, right on cue, a tom turkey came strutting across a recently
burned over wet prairie area adjacent to the trail we were walking.
Amazingly enough, we had to reinsure the visitors that we did not 'catch and
release' the avian wonders we were seeing.

Another serendipitous moment involved a Sandhill Crane landing in the roadway
right in front of my car while birding with a good friend of mine. Braking
hard to avoid collision we then idled in the road while the crane sauntered
down the lane and off into the grass. What a wondrous moment!!!
