No, not a Peregrine Falcon, although that's what I was expecting...

While waiting for my scooter to warm up so I could head home after work, I
was idly watching a few gulls, and many Eu. Starlings as they were settling
in to roost for the night near Pier 48. All of a sudden a Cooper's Hawk
flap-flap-glided into view and perched in a bare tree and perched there for
a while, watching the starlings (or so it seemed). I expected it to go
after one for dinner. Instead, it moved to another tree briefly, then up to
the light standard on which about 50 starlings were perched. Naturally the
EUST took off like bats out of hell, the flock swirling madly, but the COHA
made no move to pursue them. I lost track of it shortly thereafter--had
been hoping for a nice COHA v. EUST show, but no ceegar. Pretty nice
post-work pick-me-up nonetheless!
