Birders,

Today I went birding with Stockton, California birder Cherri Pillsbury in
and around Kelowna. Our goal was to find a few of the target species Cherri
wanted to see. Most of these targets were northern species, like Common
Redpoll and White-winged Crossbill, that are absent this year. But we did
manage to find two lifers for her...Boreal Chickadee and Bohemian Waxwing.

2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were found along the Big White Road, about 5 km from Hwy
33. The birds were called in with a pygmy-owl imitation and then perched
obligingly for scope views!

70 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were along Lakeshore Road, near Avery Road.

McCulloch Road

Pine Grosbeak 2 females eating gravel on road
Mountain Chickadee 15
Black-capped Chickadee 10
Red-breasted Nuthatch 10
Ruffed Grouse 1 walked across road
Red Crossbill 10
Golden-crowned Kinglet 8
Brown Creeper 1
Common Raven 2

Munson's Pond

White-crowned Sparrow 12
Song Sparrow 5
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE 1 ad. (year bird for me)
Canada Goose 200
California Quail 20
American Goldfinch 4
House Finch 10

Male GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was perched on lamp post over Hwy 97 at Cooper
Road. I bet it reminded Cherri of home!

We missed things like Northern Shrike, Three-toed Woodpecker, Spruce Grouse
and White-winged Crossbill, so if any birders in the Okanagan have any
reliable ones, send Cherri an email at cpillsbury at netbos.com and tell her
about how and where to find it. I am sure she would be greatful.
