Ten (10) Fish & Wildlife Biologist I positions to perform fieldwork on studies wildlife communities in shrubsteppe habitats in eastern Washington. These are temporary appointments, 01 April - 31 July 2002. Applicants should have strong skills in field identification of birds (preferably western) by sight and song, as well as experience with point-count bird surveys, nest searching, mist-netting and banding. Excellent hearing and vision are required, along with the ability to work independently in remote areas.

One Fish & Wildlife Biologist 2 as Field coordinator for studies of avian and reptile communities in shrubsteppe habitats in eastern Washington. This is a temporary appointment, 01 March - 31 August 2002. Applicants should have: 1) strong skills in field identification of birds (preferably western) by sight and song, as well as experience with point-count surveys, nest searching, mist-netting and banding, 2) experience supervising field crews, and 3) experience managing computer databases. Excellent hearing and vision are required, along with the ability to work in remote areas.

Two (2) Fish & Wildlife Biologist I positions assisting with research of the State-threatened western gray squirrel in south-central Washington. These are temporary position, March through October 2003. Primary duties will include: capturing and radio-tracking squirrels to document survival, movements and home ranges; behavioral observations of breeding females and young, and documenting foraging activity. Applicants should have experience radio-tracking terrestrial animals and capturing and handling small mammals. Applicants must have experience working alone in remote locations, good orienteering skills, and the ability to hike for long periods in rough terrain.
