Hi Folks,

An active morning at the locks. Most of the visible Great Blue Herons were
in the Carl English Gardens, mostly in the tall cedars and sequoias along
the northern fence and above the western fence. There were about 10 flights
from Commodore Park across the canal with a bill full of branches. On the
way out there were many herons flying around from tree to tree, probably 20
flights in 2 minutes. Also, there were about 10 herons ripping branches out
of the trees in the gardens including two ripping branches out in the Dawn
Redwood near the admin building, only about 20 feet up. None of the herons
took branches into the heronry, they all took them into the trees on the N
side of the canal. They were also very noisy, pretty neat if you like giant
noisy birds flying 10 feet over your head.

I asked this question before and didn't get an answer, do gb herons use
nest building in courtship displays?
