Hey all, sorry this message is a couple days late. Our Black Hills Audubon
group had a tour of southern Thurston Co. and Centralia steam plant on
President's Day with a few good birds:

Scatter Creek WMA (Guava ST entrance)-Thurston Co.:
2 WHITE-TAILED KITE (Jan Watson found them later as she was heading home)
3 Belted Kingfisher
1 Downy Woodpecker
1 Hairy Woodpecker (both foraging in the same oak allowed us good
comparison)
5 W. Scrub-Jay
More singing Juncos and Towhees

Scatter Creek (Case RD entrance)-Thurston Co.:
5 Western Meadowlarks (heard them singing all day)
2 Bald Eagle

Big Hanaford RD pond (near Centralia steam plant)-Lewis Co.:
A. Wigeon
7 EURASIAN WIGEON
8 N. Shovelers
N. Pintail
G/W Teal (keep looking for that Common Teal, there is currently a large
concentration of G/Wingeds here)
R/Necked Ducks
1 Lesser Scaup (fem.)
2 Bald Eagle
1 Red-tailed Hawk
30+ Dunlin

Big Hanaford RD (towards Tono RD)-Lewis Co.:
1 WHITE-TAILED KITE
4 R/T Hawk

Big Hanaford RD (after turnoff for Tono RD)-Lewis Co.:
2 WHITE-TAILED KITE
1 A. Kestral
47 Golden-crowned Sparrow

Meadows RD (off Prather RD)-Thurston Co.:
2 Bald Eagle
1 Mourning Dove

Then the rain started. Total W/T Kites for the day were 3 in Lewis Co. and
2 in Thurston Co.

Today I heard a singing White-crowned Sparrow at Swantown in Olympia.
