Subject: G. Stuart Keith

I have just learned that G. Stuart Keith has died while on a trip to
Micronesia. Stuart was one of the world's top birders and for many
years had the largest life list of any birder in the world. Stuart
was also a founder of the American Birding Association. He was also
an expert on African birds and was the editor and coauthor of the
monumental Birds of Africa series whose seventh and final volume is
in preparation. He was a Research Associate in Ornithology at the
American Museum of Natural History. For some years now Stuart has
lived in Redding, CA but prior to that lived for many years in the
New York/New Jersey metropolitan area where he was an active birder.
Stuart was a long-time member of the Linnaean Society of New York and
a recipient of its Eisenmann Medal.

For those of us privileged to know Stuart personally, we knew that in
addition to his many professional and birding accomplishments he was
a wonderful, generous human being with a great sense of humor. He
will be greatly missed.

I will post additional information when I receive it.
