Good Morning another great day for Birding: For those of you interested
in the question re origin of feathers check the March issue of SCIENTIFIC
AMERICAN . This article by Prum and Brush ( a former Editor of The Auk)
describe the formation process in the development of feathers and points
out feathers first developed on dinosaurs as evidenced from fossils. The
graphics illustrate how feathers form.. A time line outlines
developmental stages in feather formation associated certain dinosaur
types. Also we now have a new acronym "evo-devo" for a new field of
research--- Evolutionary Developmental Biology.
Also for older birders there is an interesting article in the same issue on
Restoring Aging Bones (no pun intended). Bill
