Tweets - Five of us met today on a gorgeous (though rather cold) mostly
sunny morning. The birding was really quite good, though once again we
did not add any birds for the year list. This winter has been somewhat
static, with the same species seen time after time.

Highlights:

GREEN HERON One, again at remains of beaver lodge
Wilson's Snipe One briefly seen at weir
Virginia Rail Heard at bend in boardwalk
Red-breasted Sapsucker One apparently hanging around the mansion
all morning
Red-breasted Nuthatch One male at last dog swim area
Brown Creeper 1-2, maybe more (who can tell?) all
SINGING madly
Townsend's Warbler Female near mansion
WH.-THROATED SPARROW Third week in a row, same details as previous

At one point we had EIGHT RED-TAILED HAWKS in view simultaneously,
including 5 in a kettle east of the model airplane field. A bit later, we
had two adult BALD EAGLES circling over the windmill, with two RTHAs. One
hawk made several passes at the eagles, and once I saw an eagle turn
entirely upside-down to bare its talons at the hawk, a pretty impressive
roll.

The male RING-NECKED DUCK with the VERY obvious brown neck ring was again
at the RC ponds, this time with another male and 2 females.

Chickadees were everywhere. Ruby-crowned Kinglets were singing, as were
Marsh Wrens, Bewick's Wrens, and many others.

Tree Frogs were chorusing loudly at the Rowing Club.

For the day, 52 species. Still at 71 for 2003.
