On February 12, Sandra Haun reported the continued presence of the male
EURASIAN WIGEON at Leslie Groves Park in Richland.

Mick and Betty Wise have had 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS among the many birds
at their Kennewick feeder during at least the week of February 20.

Mike and MerryLynn Denny reported a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and an adult
GLAUCOUS GULL among the many gulls at the Walla Walla Delta on February
21. They have not been refound. With the multitude of gulls and changing
water levels, they may still be present. They also observed GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at McNary Pool, (milepost 300 of Route 12). Bill &
Nancy LaFramboise also found 1 SNOW GOOSE among the geese there on February
23 and 24.

Also on February 23, Bill and Nancy found many diving ducks at the Paterson
Slough Unit of the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge. There were RUDDY
DUCKS, REDHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYES, LESSER SCAUP and RING-NECKED DUCKS
there. An EARED GREBE was also present.

Spring birding is just around the corner. Gulls are starting to claim
territories on the islands north of Richland according to Nancy
Stansbury. SAGE SPARROWS have also returned. Bill and Nancy LaFramboise
observed one along Rotha Road on the south slope of Rattlesnake Mountain on
February 23. Margaret Greger has had a drumming DOWNY WOODPECKER in her
Richland yard.
