A short trip on New years Day covering the Moses Lake to Potholes Reservoir
area produced the following highlights. It was a good start to a new year
with 42 species observed.

Greater White-fronted Goose (Potholes Reservoir with a large raft of Canadas
Tundra Swan (Montlake Park, Moses Lake)
Canvasback (Montlake Park, not notable except the good numbers - 46)
Greater Scaup ( Lind Coulee - 4 males in beautiful breeding plumage)
Hooded Merganser (Montlake Park - Many males displaying)
Bald Eagle (adult at Montlake Park harassing waterfowl)
Rough-legged Hawk (hunting along O'sullivan Dam Road)
Red-tailed Hawk (two perched in the trees at the house above Lind Coulee)
Mourning Dove (Rd. 3.5 SE. Not notable other than large number 150 - 200
individuals)
SNOWY OWL (M Rd. SE sitting in a winter wheat field)
Dark-eyed Junco - Slate-colored (1 female with a flock of Oregons at Lind
Coulee)
