Hi Tweeters:
The Sewage Ponds subject is a good one. Thanks Mary. She listed KENT PONDS
as a sewage pond. The ponds are birdy and certainly could be included in a
list of birdy spots. Perhaps they should be called "ex-sewer ponds". They
have not been used for sewage since 1973. After that, they became a fairly
stable pond system, but flooding still occured. The area was changed to
larger ponds, and a wetland. The area was opened as Green River Natural
Resources Area (still referred to as Kent Ponds by many of us) in 1998. The
ponds area serves many uses including flood control, wildlife area (with
viewing stands), fishery enhancement, preservation of open space, and public
education. It is still changing down there. I'll keep you posted if I hear
about future plans.
Yours, Carol Schulz

P.S. During our Dec 15 monthly census, an imm N. SHRIKE flew right into
where the guys were viewing the ponds, and perched 50 feet away. Pretty
cool.
