Greetings,

Today, 5 Jan 03, I saw the Northern Mockingbird along US 2 that was
originally reported by Meredith Spencer and Rick Hendricks on the Wenatchee
CBC, 31 Dec 02.

The bird was seen along the east side of US 2 [SR 97] north of East
Wenatchee at the 135 milepost. The milepost has been knocked over, so
check mileage from the 134 or 136 mileposts. Traffic is fast and furious
here so be careful. The bird was in Russian Olives across the highway from a
driveway that has this address posted on the gate: 134 93 SR 97. Delorme
Atlas p.83, D between 6 and 7.

Also of interest; a little further north along US 2 at Long View Rd there is
a large pullout on the river side of the highway. Here was a Horned Grebe
and an Eared Grebe seen close together. The Eared Grebe
was smaller with a thinner upturned bill. The Eared lacked the pale tip on
the
bill and the pale loral spot that was present on the Horned Grebe. Both the
Horned and the Eared had a dark wash across the upper foreneck-perhaps a
little darker on the eared-but slightly so. The head shape of these two
looked
about the same with a somewhat rounded crown. Both had a dark cap and white
cheeks and so looked
essentually the same in color pattern overall.
