With pleasant weather following us throughout the day, Sunday, Dec. 29, was
especially favorable for the Kent-Auburn CBC with a high count of 122
species. A new species, Western Scrub Jay, (discovered by Jim Flynn) was
added to our 22 years of Christmas Bird Counts in and around the Green
River Valley. Also counted were 3 No. Shrikes (1 adult),one Trumpeter
Swan, 109 Wood Ducks (highest numbers, as usual, on Sweeney Road wetland,
Maple Valley),4 Redheads, 2 Green Herons and 2 Amer. Dippers on the Cedar
River.
My thanks to all participants for making it such a rewarding day!
