This is the Vancouver Natural History Societies Rare Bird Alert for Friday
January 10th evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited
Stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature bird is: AMERICAN AVOCET and TOWNSENDS WARBLER.

Sightings for Friday, January 10th

The wintering AMERICAN AVOCET was seen at Beach Grove
Lagoon in Tsawassen.

In the vicinity of Pitt Lake there was an AMERICAN
KESTREL and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

Thursday, January 9th

At Prospect Point in Stanley Park was a pair of
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS associated with a fock of
Chickadees and Kinglets.

There was a NORTHERN SHRIKE at Colony Farm.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner was an immature
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, GREAT HORNED OWL, PEREGRIN FALCON,
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON and an AMERICAN KESTREL was on a
wire near 33A and 41B street.

Wednesday, January 8th

175 TRUMPETER SWANS were near the intersection of 72nd and Ladner
Trunk Rd.

12 EARED GREBES and over 200 HORNED GREBES were
cooperatively feeding in groups off the White Rock
Pier.

Tuesday, January 7th

54 BRANT and hundreds of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were
feeding on the Tsawassen mudflats.

13 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were at Beach Grove in Tsawassen.

3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were at 3rd beach in Stanley Park.
