Sightings for January 11th

In Kelowna, the juv. SNOW GOOSE was seen in the early morning at the Maude
Roxby Bird Sanctuary (CC,CS) and then later in the day bird again at Edith
Gay Park on Moyer Rd in Rutland (TF,DP).

An adult GLAUCOUS GULL and an adult MEW GULL were mixed in with CALIFORNIA
GULLS, HERRING GULLS, RING-BILLED GULLS, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS and THAYER'S
GULLS at the Maude Roxby Bird Sanct in Kelowna (CC,CS).

On Kelowna'a Westside a CANYON WREN was at the cliff at Westside Road and
Bear Lk Road (TF) and the YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was again in Waterfront Park
in downtown Kelowna (CC,CS).

A pair of GOLDEN EAGLES were soaring and displaying over Layercake Mtn S. of
Kelowna along McCulloch Road (CC,CS).

East of Kelowna, in the Joe Rich area, a CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE was near
the mailboxes along Philpott Road, about 4 km from Hwy 33 (CC,CS). Also
scarce this winter, more than 400 PINE SISKINS were along Philpott Road
(CC,CS).

The following species were reported in the South Okanagan on Jan 9th:

The female LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the Osoyoos Sewage Lagoons (LR,ED) and at
Haynes Point in Osoyoos, both BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen
(LR,ED). On Osoyoos Lk 3 WOOD DUCKS and the GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE were
seen from Haynes Point (LR,ED).


Sightings for January 10th

The juvenile SNOW GOOSE was located at Edith Gay Park in Rutland, with a
large flock of CANADA GEESE in the morning (CC,DP). For the best viewing
head E. off Rutland Road on Moyer Road. Turn right on Friesen Road and right
again on Edith Gay Road. From the end of the road the fields and the geese
can be viewed.


Sightings for January 9th

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was found in Waterfront Park in downtown Kelowna
(CC). The bird was in the grove of ornamental trees near the man-made
waterfall.

A male NORTHERN PINTAIL and a first year MEW GULL were at Sutherland Park in
Kelowna's North End (CC).

Another first year MEW GULL and an adult THAYER'S GULL were at the Kelowna
Landfill on Glenmore Road (CC).
