This is the Vancouver Natural History Societies Rare Bird Alert for Sunday
January 12th evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited
Stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature birds are: BEWICK'S SWAN, BARN SWALLOW AND CLIFF SWALLOW.

Sightings for Sunday, January 12th

In the Eastern Fraser Valley was a BEWICK'S SWAN with TRUMPETER
and TUNDRA SWANS at the East end of Nicomen Island between
Nicomen Slough and Athey rd East of the Deroche Bridge.

An arrival CLIFF SWALLOW was eating insects along Benson Canal East
of Fort Langley in Glenn Valley.

At the Reifel Bird Sancuary in ladner was an immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, A GREAT HORNED OWL, A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON and
a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER. Also, was an unidentified SWALLOW
flying over the sanctuary.

A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was at Prospect Point in Stanley Park.

The two CRESTED MYNAS were between First and Second on Wylie
Street in Vancouver.

Saturday, January 11th

The AMERICAN AVOCET was reported from Beach Grove in Tsawassen
during the morning high tide and a MERLIN was in the area.

Five MARBLED MURRELETS were reported from Tswassen ferry jetty
and from Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, Washington were 16
ANCIENT MURRELETS and 2 MARBLED MURRLETS as well as 3 arrival BARN
SWALLOWS near the entrance to a campground.

There was a RUSTY BLACKBIRD in the vicinity of BOUNDARY RD AND
SAND RD in Abbotsford.

Friday, January 10th

The wintering AMERICAN AVOCET was seen at Beach Grove
Lagoon in Tsawassen.

In the vicinity of Pitt Lake there was an AMERICAN
KESTREL and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

Thursday, January 9th
At Prospect Point in Stanley Park was a pair of
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS associated with a fock of
Chickadees and Kinglets.

There was a NORTHERN SHRIKE at Colony Farm.
