On the Columbia River at Wanapum Dam south of Vantage, Kittitas Co WA the
YELLOW-BILLED LOON is persisting, as is at least one PACIFIC LOON and a
RED-THROATED LOON. Wanapum Dam is about 5 miles south of Vantage on the
Columbia River. WA DeLorme 52, A-1.

In the Lewiston ID / Clarkston WA area were several good birds on 11 Jan.
Mike and MerryLynn Denny, Dave Holick, and I found 2 first-winter
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS and a second winter GLAUCOUS GULL on the gravel bar in
the Clearwater River near the truck weigh station along US 95 east of
Lewiston. On the Clearwater River near the Lewiston Grain Terminal were 2
LONG-TAILED DUCKS and a single PACIFIC LOON. Several first winter
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS were at the Asotin Co landfill west of Clarkston. We
spied a male EURASIAN WIGEON north of the US 12 bridge on the Clarkston
side, and Jane Westervelt reports there are actually 2 EURASIANS in the
area.

On 13 Jan Randy Hill reports a first or second year GLAUCOUS GULL at the
north end of Banks Lake, Grant Co WA. The bird was west of the airport just
southwest of Electric City. WA DeLorme 85, A-8.

On 10 Jan near the mouth of the Walla Walla River in western Walla Walla Co
WA, Mike and MerryLynn Denny found a single FOX SPARROW, 2 WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS, and a single sub-adult HARRIS'S SPARROW. To get to the birds from
the mouth of the Walla Walla River at the Columbia along US 12, turn onto
North Shore Drive and head east 2.3 miles to a new road that turns right or
to the south, drive drove down to the small parking area. WA DeLorme 40,
D-1.

A WESTERN SCREECH-OWL is persisting in Clarkston, Asotin Co WA in the area
of Hilyard and 18th above Swallows Park according to Carole Vande Voorde.

On the Rathdrum Prairie north of Post Falls, Kootenai Co ID, Stephen Lindsay
reports a PRAIRIE FALCON near the intersection of Huetter and Lancaster
roads. Stephen also saw 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS along Idaho Road between Hayden
and Wyoming roads, and another along Idaho between Prairie and Poleline
roads. ID DeLorme 60, AB-1.

On Jan 11 Gina Sheridan found 2 flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS in WA. Six birds
were in a flock near the rest area just east of the Deal Road exit along
I-90, about half way between Ritzville and Moses Lake. WA DeLorme 70. D-1.
The second flock numbered around 600 birds and was seen in Douglas Co along
US 2 between Douglas and Farmer. WA DeLorme 84, CD-1.5.
