Greetings All

The Burke Museum is a wonderful asset to our birding community, and we should
support it as much as we can.

For starters, the ornithologists at the Burke are involved in cutting edge
research that has opened many doors of insight (such as the evolution,
hybridization, etc of Townsend's and Hermit Warblers; differences in molt
strategies of eastern and western sister taxa). Additionally, the collections
at the Burke are a fabulous resource for learning bird ID. Most notable, is
the virtually unique collection of spread bird wings housed there (started by
Dennis Paulson. Outside of the Burke and the Slater Museum, I don't know if
any such collection exists anywhere). Virtually half of the articles I've
written have involved some research done at the Burke. The scientists who
work there are remarkably open with their knowledge - a kindness that I've
always found most extraordinary.

Best Wishes
Steven Mlodinow
