A friend forwarded the following message to me today and because of the
crow/ant hill message, thought this might be of interest.

I observed an interesting event in my back yard Saturday. There were a
dozen robins enjoying the sun and feeding in the back yard on my ant hill.
One robin stood on the top of the mound eating quite eagerly, but the
others were eating those ants around its base. Every time one of those at
the base of the mound tried to go closer to the top where the ants were
more plentiful, the "king of the mountain" robin would drive it away. It
was so intriquing that I watched the show for 10 minutes, Then a hawk flew
at the group and they quickly dispersed. The hawk flew into the pear tree
empty-beaked, and the robins did not return. The hawk soon departed. (the
hawk was of a short winged variety - I do not remember what it is called.)
Thought this account would be of interest to you. I never thought of robins
eating ants!
