Yesterday I did a test to see what foods the
local warbler flock preferred. In order of
preference they liked, donuts, chopped up
peanuts, chopped sunflower seeds, and barely
touched-chopped up dog food.

I had some stale powdered sugar donettes and
remembered that birds liked them a long time
ago in Iowa and on Thursday discovered that
birds like them here also.

Yesterday I ended up feeding 8 donuts along
with the other foods in the test area as well
as all the regular food out. The donuts attracted
flocks of pine warbers, a few butter-butted warblers,
and the local yellow throated warbler. Two of the
pine warblers lit in the dish I was carrying to get at
the food early.

The pine warblers multiplied rapidly during the day
with up to 14 on the balcony at one time. They apparently
told all their friends who came for the goodies. There were
many more birds around in addition to the ones on the
balcony. Orange-crowned warblers have left the immediate
area (possibly due to the competition) and were not included
in the test.

Now I hope that the warblers do not hire a lawyer and sue
me for putting out junk food.
