My usual stop at Belfair State Park this morning brought an interesting
surprise. Amongst a small flock of Am. Wigeons was a Marbled Godwit feeding
on the mudflat of the wading pool area during the incoming tide. I watched
it for a few minutes before heading into town. About 20 minutes later I
stopped again at Belfair SP to see if the godwit was still there. It was
gone but I did meet three gentlemen birders from the Seattle/Puyallup area
that had seen the godwit. They informed me that a dog had come by and the
godwit had left. It may be refound after the tide has gone out as it is so
foggy in that area this morning visibility is only about 500 ft. so there
wasn't much flying going on with the other ducks in the area.

I have birded Belfair SP for a year now and this is the first godwit I've
seen there.

There has been a wintering flock of 90 - 100 Brants in Hood Canal between
Belfair SP and the Allyn boat launch about a mile west of the park. The
usual other waterfowl: Common and Barrow's Goldeneye, Common and Pacific
Loons, American Coots, Surf and White-Wing Scoters, Mallards, etc are easily
seen from along North Shore Rd. west from Belfair.

Happy Birding.....
