Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded from Lakewood in Pierce Co. to Wenzel Slough Rd. in eastern Grays Harbor Co.,beginning with 2 hours at the Flett Creek Basin accessed from the Mountain View Cemetery in Lakewood, where we had a good assortment of notable species. We visited two locations bordering the Flett Creek Basin, which includes vast areas of freshwater margins and brushy areas with plenty of brambles for sparrows. Highlights included a single BARN OWL that was flsuhed and observed briefly along a greenbelt bordering the Mountain View Cemetery and the Flett Creek Basin, 2 White-throated Sparrows(1 adult white-striped form,1 adult tan-striped form), and 1 SWAMP SPARROW(heard and seen)amongst good numbers of Song and Lincoln's Sparrows. Other notable species during our visit at this location included:

15 Northern Shovelers
8 Ring-necked Ducks
12 California Quail
3 Mourning Doves
6 Western Scrub Jays
13 Yellow-rumped Warblers
18 Lincoln's Sparrows

We then travelled to Grays Harbor Co. and birded the Wenzel Slough Rd. area with a quick stop along Moore Rd.,but we were unable to locate the Greater Yellowlegs that had been present since the 28th of December and also to check for the Ruff since 2 birds are reported at the same location in Eugene,Oregon. We checked along Wenzel Slough Rd.,where we located up to 4 SWAMP SPARROWS at the same location than in past visits with minimal effort of "pishing" along with several Song and Lincoln's Sparrows.

Good birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
