This is the Vancouver Natural History Societies Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday January 25, evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild
Birds Unlimited Stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature birds are HARRIS' SPARROW and PRAIRIE FALCON.

Sightings for Saturday January 25

A bird fitting the description of a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen at the
end of River Rd at Brunswick Point in Ladner. Further sighings of
this bird are requested as it is a rare record.

An Adult HARRIS' SPARROW was seen along River Rd in Ladner about 4
houses from the end. Please respect private property as the bird can
be viewed from the road.

The CRESTED MYNAS were between 1st and 2nd on Wylie in Vancouver on
the brick building on the east side of the road.

In Little Campbell River Park in south Surrey was a bird fitting the
description of a EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL near the train trestle
bridge.

There were 37 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS on 52nd street south of Hwy 17 and
the AMERICAN AVOCET was at Beach Grove and 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE were in the vicinity.

There was a flock of 6 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS seen at an unknown location
in Chilliwack.

There were 4 BARN SWALLOWS near the entrace to the Iona Island Sewage
Treatment Plant.

Friday, January 24th

An adult HARRIS' SPARROW was seen along River Rd in Ladner.

A bird fitting the description of a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen at the
end of River Rd at Brunswick Point in Ladner. Further sighings of
this bird are requested as it is a rare record.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was in a large gull roost along Ladner Trunk Rd and
88th street.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Ladner there were 12 BARN SWALLOWS
and there were 4 more along the Iona Island causway. Also at Reifel were
2 SWAMP SPARROWS and a pair of CINNAMON TEAL and sightings of a GREAT
HORNED OWL, AMERICAN BITTERN AND PEREGRINE FALCON.

On 34th street in Ladner in fields were 2 RED KNOTS 10 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS 12 LEAST SANDPIPERS, HUNDREDS OF BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and many
DUNLIN.

On Sea Island near the airport was a NORTHERN SHRIKE.

The AMERCIAN AVOCET was again seen at Beach Grove in Tsawwassen.

Thursday, January 23rd

The PRAIRIE FALCON sighted near Brunswick Point.

The AVOCET was a Beach Grove in Tsawaassen.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was the foot of 104th street on Boundary Bay.

Wednesday, January 22nd

The PRAIRIE FALCON was first sighted at Brunswick Point.

There were 10 Barn Swallows at the Reifel Refuge in Ladner.
