Yesterday stopping at Julia Butler Hansen NWR headquarters the Black Phoebe
was very vocal. Also about one-half mile from the headquarters was 1 Swamp
Sparrow near a pull out right before a clump of small douglas firs. The
sparrow was in the grass near the edge of blackberries and calling. This
spot is due south of the headquarters. I was hoping to find a Short-eared
Owl here, but did not find any. Seems like a poor year for Short-eareds. I
have seen them here before.

Also had a Sooty Fox Sparrow in Pacific County with 1 white primary in each
wing. Makes it stand out form the rest of the Fox Sparrows more.
