Red-tailed hawks will, goshawks and the occasional female cooper's hawk
will. Squirrels are very dangerous quarry just because of their teeth and
extremely strong jaws. They are strong in general and when pinned by a hawk,
they can put up a good fight. Of all the raptors, the redtail is probably
the best because redtails have EXTREMELY strong feet and can grip very
strongly. Goshawks are as well, strong, both male and female (females
definately)can take gray squirrels and the female cooper's depending on size
(western cooper's are smaller than their eastern cousins) can take them.
Hawks have had toes bit off, their ceres ripped off, and have even been
killed because of squirrels biting main arteries, although this is rare.
