Rare bird alert for a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK!

Sightings for Tuesday, July 1:
A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen at Burnaby Mountain Park in Burnaby
this morning. To see this bird, park in the lower parking lot and
walk towards the restaurant, scanning the tops of the trees.

Monday, June 30:
The shorebirds are back! There were good numbers of Western and Least
Sandpipers at Iona Island during the evening high tide. Also seen
were 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 12 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated
Plovers and a Common Nighthawk.

Sunday, June 29:
An Ovenbird was seen in the morning at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby. To
find the bird: go north off Imperial to Gilley and then turn right
onto Oakland and then left onto Brantford. The trail is where
Brantford makes a sharp right turn. Take the trail down the ravine,
and just past the ravine near a creek is where the bird has been
heard singing.

Saturday, June 28:
The Yellow-breasted Chat was seen about 100 meters inside the gate
that leads to Grant Narrows. Also in the area was an Alder Flycatcher.

A Pileated Woodpecker was northwest of the Lougheed Mall.

Friday, June 27:
A family of 6 Green Herons were at Ambelside Park in West Vancouver
and could be seen in a willow on an island in the display pond across
from some benches.

2 Black Oystercatchers with a chick were at the compensation lagoon
at the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty, along with 60 Caspian Terns, one of
which had coloured leg bands. 2 Whimbrel were at Beach Grove in
Tsawwassen.

In a late report for Thursday, 2 Vaux's Swifts were seen in
overflight west of Burnaby Lake and a Turkey Vulture was above
Lougheed Mall.
