June 21, 2003, Saturday, 12:20 am. This is Rachel Lawson at (206)
282-5593. Friday, June 20, Penny Clayman and I went to look for the
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, which has reappeared in Hardy Canyon. We found
it in the same location as last year, south of the lone Ponderosa Pine.
There's also a white handkerchief hanging from the bush in the general
area. The bird was very vocal and easy to find. Good birding.

June 21, 2003, Saturday, 10:23 pm. Hi, Robert Howson at (425) 485-0266.
Yesterday at the Loup Loup Campgrounds up at the North Cascades Highway,
there were a pair of very vocal and very obvious BARN OWLS, as well as a
WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER. Enjoy.

June 22, 2003, Sunday, 10:40 am. Hello, this is Steve Pink, (425)
775-5947. Yesterday at Hurricane Ridge, we got three PINE GROSBEAKS and
they were near the end of the lower dirt road that leads up the parking
lot from Hurricane Ridge. Also, at Diamond Point, we had several, about
four PUFFINS. Thanks very much. Good luck and good birding.

June 24, 2003, Tuesday, 12:03 pm. Hello, my name is Jeff Park. I'm at
(206) 655-2802. I work for Boeing at East Marginal Way on the Duwamish
River. There's a bird out here that is almost the size of a full grown
GOOSE. It's got black feathers. They're translucent. It's got an
orange beak. It's got orange, intricate markings on its face. It's
quite friendly when I feed it. It wags its tail a lot. So, I'm
wondering if someone lost their baby because it looks like it is tame.
I already called the zoo and they said they did not, so maybe somebody
will know. Thank you.

June 25, 2003, Wednesday, 6:27 am. Hello, this is Wayne Weber from
Delta, B.C., phone number (604) 597-7201, with some bird sightings for
Tuesday, June 24 in Skagit County. Along the Concrete-Sauk River Road,
about three miles, almost exactly three miles east of the Skagit River
Bridge near Concrete, I had a least 25 BANK SWALLOWS flying over and
feeding over the Skagit River. This is a pretty rare bird, generally,
in Western Washington. I suspect they're nesting near this location,
although I couldn't see any sign of nesting boroughs along that stretch
of river. This is just where the road approaches the river for the first
time after bordering a long field on the left for awhile. It's also 1.2
miles east of the junction with Cedar Grove Road. Also at this
location, besides the BANK SWALLOWS, were a singing, male LAZULI BUNTING
and a singing RED-EYED VIREO. And finally, also in Skagit County, at
Ship Harbor, which is the ferry terminal for the San Juan Islands, there
were at least five PURPLE MARTINS occupying the PURPLE MARTIN boxes
there -- there were probably more than that in the area, but I think
that some of them were off feeding. That's it for now. Thank you.

June 26, 2003, Thursday, 4:10 pm. This is Dennis Duffy. Today Steve
Pink and I birded along Highway 530 between Arlington and Darrington.
At the Fortson Mill area, we had a singing LEAST FLYCATCHER. The bird
was on the river trail about 200 yards upriver from the mill pond.
There's an open marsh area there with a great view of Whitehorse
Mountain, and that's where the FLYCATCHER was singing. We also had two
BANK SWALLOWS along Oso Loop Road, where the road crosses Frye Creek.
There's a little bridge there and two BANK SWALLOWS flying around.

June 26, 2003, Thursday, 6:51 pm. Yeah, my name is Stan Nelson. Phone
number 782-0793. I heard that a fellow in the report has seen goose
down at the Duwamish River. Well, it's been there since about 3 1/2
years. It's a GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE. There were two of them
there when I had seen them quite a few times, a male and a female. I've
seen them as far as from the First Avenue South Bridge down to the
Spokane Street Bridge. That's about all I've got to say.

June 27, 2003, Friday, 7:58 am. Hi, this is Tom Aversa at (206)
782-7342, reporting on a trip this past couple of days to Okanogan
County. Along Mary Ann Creek Road I had a couple of FLYCATCHERS, or at
least one bird. It seemed to be a pair that matched the description for
ALDER FLYCATCHER. Don't know if they could be aberrant WILLOWs, but I
watched these birds for several hours. They never, or it, the male,
presumably never gave a "fitzbew" call. There were some calls, songs
that sounded similar to what I know of for ALDER. Also, it was
"pipping" instead of "whitting." If you want to check these birds out,
if you are up that way, they are along Mary Ann Creek Road, which in the
DeLorme, is called Molson Summit Road. Out of Molson, go up just beyond
Dot Road on the left and then you'll come to a small wetland on the
right. Just before the water, on the right of the road, is a single,
live conifer right next to the road. The birds are right there, right
next to the road. If you head out there, good luck with that one. It's
just before the cut-off on the right for Fields Road. Also, up in
Okanogan County in Molson, there was a HORNED GREEBE in breeding
plumage, and a BUFFLEHEAD, with the female with five chicks. Back in
the Okanogan River Valley, just south of Oroville at the Kline Wildlife
Area, there was a singing LEAST FLYCATCHER, and a couple of singing
NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH. On Fields Lake there was a GREATER YELLOWLEGS.
On Muskrat Lake there was a LESSER YELLOWLEGS. Also, on the way back on
the North Cascades Highway, the pair of REDSTARTS at the County line
ponds were carrying -- as I got cut off, I was just going to say that
those REDSTARTS were carrying food. I couldn't locate the nest though.
Good birding.
