This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for
Wednesday, July 2, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver

The rare bird alert continues for the Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Sightings for Wednesday, July 2:
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak was seen and heard singing this morning on
Burnaby Mountain Park at a trail going west from the lower parking
lot.

In Pitt Meadows, there were 2 Eastern Kingbirds along the Nature Dyke
Trail as well as 2 Bullock's Orioles, a Grey Catbird and an American
Redstart. 1 Mute Swan was in Pitt Lake along with a Caspian Tern.
Katzie Marsh had 24 Ring-necked Ducks, including 1 female with 8
young, which may be the first breeding record for the Lower Mainland.

There were 2 Purple Martins in Rocky Point Park in Port Moody and 4
Red-breasted Sapsuckers were in Pinecone, Burke Mountain Park.

Tuesday, July 1:
A Rose-breasted Grosbeak was seen at Burnaby Mountain Park.

In Pitt Meadows the Yellow-breasted Chat was at Widgeon Slough in
bushes on the north side. Also in the area were 2 Eastern Kingbirds.
A Gray Catbird was along Rene Road and another 3 were on the Dyke
Trail.

3 Purple Martins were at Blackie Spit.

Monday, June 30:
The shorebirds are back! There were good numbers of Western and Least
Sandpipers at Iona Island during the evening high tide. Also seen
were 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 12 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 2 Semipalmated
Plovers and a Common Nighthawk.
