Birders,

This morning Dick Cannings and I joined a WINGS group, led by Paul Lehman,
for some birding in the South Okanagan. The weather was sunny and pretty
warm, but a breeze made it comfortable. Birds were a little quiet (remember
it's July now), but we still saw a lot of good stuff.

MacIntyre Ck Road

*Chukar 1 perched on a rock at the sheep feeding station.
Dusky Flycatcher 3 (including a nest)
Hammond's Flycatcher 2
*Gray Flycatcher 2 singing males
Cassin's Vireo 2
Warbling Vireo 2
White-breasted Nuthatch 2
Red-breasted Nuthatch 6
Pygmy Nuthatch 3
*Canyon Wren 3 (one seen at close range as it rustled a Bushy-tailed Woodrat
from a crevice)
Rock Wren 1 heard
Red-naped Sapsucker 1
Lewis's Woodpecker 2 (ad. carrying food)
Western Tanager 8
Black-billed Magpie 1
Cassin's Finch 5
Chipping Sparrow 3
Swainson's Thrush 1
American Robin 2

*Northern Pygmy-Owl 1 being mobbed by a mess of birds

*Spruce Grouse 7 (female with 6 chicks at km 15)
*Northern Goshawk 1 ad. calling at km 15
Gray Jay 3 at km 15
*Solitary Sandpiper 2 at km 20 obviously nesting, but young not seen
Green-winged Teal 3 at km 20

Rabbit Lake and Shuttleworth Ck Road (km 23-25)

*Pine Grosbeak 4 (male and female) and another pair at km 25
Northern Waterthrush 2
Common Loon 2 ad.
Gray Jay 1
Townsend's Warbler 1 male
*Boreal Chickadee 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1 singing male
Hermit Thrush 1 singing male
Varied Thrush 1 male at km 25
Wilson's Warbler 3 males at km 25

Okanagan Falls Campground

Western Wood-Pewee 6 (nest found with 4 chicks peering over top)
Gray Catbird 2
Yellow Warbler 4
Common Merganser 2
California Quail 14 (ad. and 12 chicks)

Hummer feeders at St. Andrews Golf Course on White Lake Road

*Black-chinned Hummingbird 2 (male and female)
Calliope Hummingbird 12 (2 males and 10 females)
Rufous Hummingbird 2 (male and female)
