Each July, our three young children head south to visit grandparents, giving
dad and me a much-needed break. We always plan a couple of days away from
home, though we don't necessarily go far. Last year, we stayed at the Woodmark
Hotel in Kirkland, and visited the shops and art galleries.

This year, I was logged on to the Woodmark's website, and noticed links to
several other hotels managed by the same company. I had just clicked on the link
to "Freestone Inn", when Connie's post describing her incredible experience
at and around this location arrived in my mailbox. Talk about serendipity!

With cameras and field guides packed, my husband and I are heading out for a
two-day stay at the Freestone Inn. We plan to follow much of Connie's route.
Knowing the nature of birding, however, we're leaving our expectations at home,
and plan to enjoy whatever comes our way.
