Gary Paul Nabhan has an essay about hummingbird migrations in AZ. There,
they move as their food sources come into/fade from bloom. They defend
territory fiercely until there's little to eat, then move on. I regret I
don't have a citation; this essay was in a collection several years ago.
Maybe someone out there has it?
