Rufous hummers, males first (leaving the females to do the dishes),
begin heading south in July.

On their way to Central America, they stop at my house, typically in
mid-July, along with the Calliope Hummingbirds from Eastern Washington, and
the Broad-tails from the Rockies and Great Basin. Those three species give
our more regular Black-chins real competition for the feeders.
