Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 2 a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK visited a Brookings feeder. An adult
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen July 7 at New River south of Bandon. It did
not remain. The CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were still
singing last weekend at the southeast corner of Lost Lake near Santiam Pass..

A noticeable increase in migrant shorebirds was noted during the week.
COMMON MURRES are now moving north along the coast as the young are leaving
the rocks. GREAT EGRETS are now arriving in western Oregon.

The July 5 offshore boat trip out of Newport found hundreds of BLACK-FOOTED
ALBATROSS, FULMARS, PINK-FOOTED and SOOTY SHEARWATERS, and FORK-TAILED
STORM-PETRELS. A RED PHALAROPE, two SKUAS, and two POMARINE JAEGERS were
also seen. A LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the mouth of the Siuslaw River July 5.
That day several hundred scoters, 30 WESTERN and 3 CLARK?S GREBES were off
the south side of Heceta Head north of Florence. A VESPER SPARROW was on the
the Bayocean Spit at Tillamook Bay July 6.

Three early SANDHILL CRANES were at Coon Point on Sauvie Island July 7. A
WESTERN GREBE and two broods of SHOVELERS were seen at Baskett Slough NWR
July 5. Several GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were above Timberline Lodge on Mt..
Hood during the week. Two were at Cooper Spur on the northeast side of Mt.
Hood July 5.

A singing LEAST FLYCATCHER was seen during the week at Crystalwood Lodge
near the Crystal Springs Picnic Area on the west side of Upper Klamath Lake..
Among the many shorebirds at Hatfield Lake near Bend during the week was a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and a WILLET.

That?s it for this week.
